Say hello to this nostalgic brand identity design for outdoor apparel brand Slow Down Neighbor. We helped this start up devise a brand strategy to launch their new apparel brand out of Dallas, Texas, USA. The ethos behind this brand is slowing down, being present and enjoying the little things in everyday life so we wanted to reflect this in the brand identity design.
In our brand strategy session with co owners Kevin and Heather Traub we defined Slow Down Neighbor’s brand personality attributes. These were Community, Neighbourly, Encouraging, Nostalgic, and Stoked. We used these attributes as guidelines to create an appropriately nostalgic brand identity design.
Kevin and Heather’s brand goal was to bring their community together and promote a nostalgic feeling of neighbourly unity. For the logotype we created a custom mark that was inspired by vintage sign writing from a neighbourhood general store. We used a colour palette that was inspired by vintage advertising, but with a contemporary vibrance to it. Their references for these themes included milk and cookies, friends sharing cold beers, cook outs and camping trips. We hand drew illustrations of these ideas to represent the brand values and used these for apparel designs.
The nostalgic brand identity that we designed for Slow Down Neighbor achieved the objectives set by the client. We created a strong, cohesive brand identity that promoted community values, felt nostalgic and appealed to their target audience. To help Kevin and Heather maintain a consistent brand message, we provided a detailed style guide and brand strategy road map with clear instructions on how to implement their new brand identity.
“Thanks Paul and Shalina for all of your help. We enjoyed working with you both and are looking forward to getting Slow Down Neighbor launched. We absolutely love the logo and colour pairings.”
